How the explanations are sourced, how the diagrams are made and what an illustrative model can tell you.
Sources support specific explanations
The explanations draw on state fish and wildlife agencies, education programmes, reference works, magazines, manufacturers' instructions and component-building guides. Each explanation cites its supporting references, and a retailer's page is never the only one. A product manual describes that model; it does not establish how every reel or rod works.
Citation numbers open the relevant source. The full source register keeps the page or section locator and the date it was accessed.

Original drawings, simplified layouts
The diagrams are original drawings. They explain relationships rather than reproduce a manufacturer's model, exploded view or physical measurements.
The lab isolates states such as casting, retrieval and drag. The rod-flex explorer uses a conceptual bend model. The rod-length figure demonstrates fixed-pivot geometry. Each identifies its assumptions; none predicts casting distance or the performance of a particular product.
Where an example differs from other common designs, the accompanying explanation names the variation. “Not applicable” in the lab means the selected step is absent from the cast being illustrated.
Real photographs, clearly identified examples
The photographs show actual equipment and retain their creators' credits and individual open licences. A photograph and its accompanying generic diagram may show different models or angles; their shared labels connect the parts.
Transcribed markings describe what is printed on the pictured reel, not a capacity measurement. Photo rights and any added annotations are explained in the image credits.

The site explains parts and mechanisms without ranking products or taking affiliate commissions. Links to makers' pages are sources, not recommendations. Diagrams and worksheets can be reused under the diagram licence.
